The Giving Keys

As I work my way through school and do research for my classes, I come across some amazing sites and organizations.  One in particular that I really love is called "The Giving Keys".  Caitlin Crosby (an American singer/actress) met a couple who were living on the streets in Hollywood, CA and started paying them to engrave keys with positive one-word messages on them for a kind of PAY IT FORWARD movement to help those in similar homeless situations.

When you buy a key, the money goes to the organization, but here is what I love about it - If you receive the key, you must give it away at some point to someone else you feel needs the message/word that's on it.  The organization also encourages you  to share your story, if you wish, on their website at TheGivingKeys.com.

Custom words for the keys are also available.

Such a great idea!!!

Their Mission:
Spreading Hope & Love through fashion... while making someone's day...

    1. I don't know why it would say pizza? Unless, of course, pizza is a positive one-word message that you could pass along to someone to brighten their day, but in all seriousness... good try at being funny.

    1. Rory - You can purchase a key at TheGivingKeys.com. It's $5 additional for custom words. Thanks for reading.

  3. sounds like puppies and rainbows...i'd pay extra for a multi-word inscription like: "give up some of your millions you mother-fuckers and donate toward affordable housing for all". maybe that's too positive.

    1. Maybe you could just have the word "dick" engraved on it. That would cost you a lot less money and really get the point across. Don't you think?

I guess the web site wasn't as neat as I thought. I was thinking something like this would be a wonderful idea for that rare youth I mentor along the way who would need that little extra push. We all need that once in awhile. Besides that, I loved the organization it funds. I thought for sure you would sort of see the value in at least that knowing how passionate you are about the homeless. Ah well, my bad.

    1. You're welcome, Lisa. They are a bit pricey, but I guess that's all for the cause. I certainly wouldn't be able to buy for every kid... It would have to be a very special occasion.
