Not-So-Retro-Owls

When I was growing up in the the '70s, I remember having some pretty groovy owl jewelry, some bookends and I think a few figurines on my dresser.  I still love owls and have a few around the house (nothing crazy as I am not an insane collector of anything - maybe dust - but that's neither here nor there) but over the last several years the whole "retro owl" trend thing has just pissed me off.  Not only are they not even RETRO looking, they are pretty much on every dumb ass thing you can purchase.  It's so annoying to me that this is actually a "trend", that I want to throw all my owls out the window and stab those little effers in their big hooty eyes.  (Okay, that's a bit much, but I take the '70s seriously!)

To get a better understanding of what I mean, go take a peek at Etsy.com (the biggest culprit of this BS) and search "retro owls".  At any given moment you can really have your fill of not-so-retro pukified owl items. It's a real freakin' nightmare.

Here are just a few examples I found...

Retro Owl Dog Collar
And you'd want this on your dog....why?

Retro Owl Green Bottle Cap Magnet
What?

Retro Owl Pocket Diaper
Nothing holds your infant's digested carrots and peas cuter than this, right?

Retro Owl Kindle Cover
Um, not so much.

So, my point is, let's stop with the not-so-retro-owl shit.  Because that is what it is, SHIT.  Go to your vintage shop, Goodwill store, or somewhere like the back of your grandmother's closet and find an owl there to display if you want one so badly.  That's a retro-owl! And please, for gawd sake's do NOT, under any circumstance, make anything with owl fabric that was not spun and woven 45+ years ago.

Thanks.

Actually, It's NOT Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

I find it rather ironic that when I turn on my favourite radio station which normally plays 60s and 70s (and they play some 50s, but I hate to admit that because I hate Elvis.  THERE. I SAID IT!!) that instead of hearing something good like Crosby, Stills and Nash or The Doors I am hearing "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas" when in fact it's not beginning to look a lot like Christmas at all.  This tomfoolery started days ago and it's not even Thanksgiving yet.  Their facebook page put out this lovely graphic saying "Greatest Holiday Hits - Playing Now!" to announce this quagmire and every comment under it was basically giving them death threats about changing the format so early.  Here were some of the NICER comments:

"not going to listen to magic until jan then...i dont want 6 weeks of christmas music...."

"Goodbye magic!! see you jan1!!"

"Is anyone at magic reading these comments? Obviously it is about their bottom line and the heck with us un-important listeners. Sprinkle a few Christmas songs here and there until 2 weeks before Christmas and then you can beat us over the head with all of those jolly songs."

"See ya later!!!"

"WHY did you bother having a listener 'POLL' if you were going to do this anyway??????? BOOOOOOOOOOO magic! "

And then my very own -to the point- comment of,

 "dumb."

You think that might be a clue to you people at the radio station?  Might we have some time to choke on the wishbone from our turkey this Thursday first?  It's still 55° F and sunny here.  I'm still wearing shorts for cryin' out loud.   I can't believe I'm going to say this, but I think I would almost take listening to The King himself over listening to Christmas music this early.   And when I say The King, I'm not talking about baby Jesus here....

Here's my suggestion:  How about playing Christmas music on Christmas?  I could even go as far as Christmas Eve day.  Until then, I want to continue to break on through to the other side, thank you.

This is my "WEB...LOG", Jen.

Rebekaches and Other Likely Symptoms...

What is this you ask?   Why I don't even know myself.  Oh how I hate the word "blog".  My sister laughed at me the other day because I said the word blog and I wanted to punch myself in the nose because I have always hated the word ever since I heard it back in, oh say, 1998?  I remember thinking "what a stupid, effin' word".   I said to her, "What do you want me to say, WEB...LOG?"  So, in short, this is my B...LOG.

I can be a bit of complainer, a whiner, and even a drama queen on occasion, but I am just very misunderstood and people can be very unkind (insert drama here).  However, I am attempting to try and find the positive in this world since I am getting old(er) and my life is probably more than half over (more drama here).  Usually, though, I'm too blind to see the good in people.  This could have something to do with an eye twitch I've had on my right lower lid since June.

I will have some things to say here (or bitch about) and I guess that's where the "aches" part of Rebekaches comes in.  And, yes, there will be other likely "symptoms" to follow. That will probably be the part where you leave and don't come back.  There may be a laugh or two, but don't count on it.  I'm really not all that funny unless you ask my 20-year-old daughter who pretty much laughs at everything I say.  I don't know if it's because I am truly funny or she is just easily amused.  I tend to think it is the latter of the two.

Well, the real reason for this post is not because I wanted to introduce this WEB...LOG, but rather because I am a perfectionist, especially when it comes to website design and I needed a new post to configure the text colours.  I really don't even know who I am talking to at the moment.  I think it's just me.  This is fine.  I'm good with that.  Oh, I think I'll add in a photo just for fun because I like to amuse the masses of no one and I love Canada and hockey, but there is no hockey right now.  I will save that for another post ......
